University Place Addition Will Take 450 Upperclassmen Off KSU’s Annual Waiting List

Kennesaw State University broke ground October 7 on the latest phase of University Place, an upperclassmen student housing apartment addition that will help subside increasing housing demands. The new facility will house approximately 450 of these students whom for the past few years have been placed on waiting lists that have surpassed 800 students.

UHS developed KSU's most recently completed student housing project, University Village Suites, which earned a Dormy Award for one of the 14 best dorms in the country. Like University Village Suites, University Place will boast many technological and aesthetic features, helping KSU continue to receive recognition for their vibrant student housing community and achieve their recruitment and retention goals.

Each of the three four-story buildings will consist of 1,282-square feet with private four-bedroom, four-bath units, containing a shared kitchen and living room, along with washer/dryer and balcony. Features include:

With project completion scheduled for the beginning of the 2012-13 school year, KSU will have a total of about 3,500 beds, enabling approximately 15 percent of their 24,100 students to live on campus. According to Michael Sanseviro, Dean of Student Success, the new addition will complete KSU's transformation from a commuter school into a residential campus. "Once you get to 15 to 20 percent, that really transforms the culture and makes you a full, 24-hour university," he said.*

UHS has helped several universities in the South transform their campuses from commuter to residential living-learning environments. President & CEO, Greg Minder, said UHS is privileged to have been a part of KSU's transformation. "We are grateful to continue our partnership with the KSU Foundation and KSU by helping them offer the full university experience to more students," said Minder.
