University Place II Represents Milestone Towards 24-Hour University Goal

8/31/2012

Kennesaw, GA – The opening of University Place II this summer represents a milestone for Kennesaw State University, becoming the university’s fifth residential community during their 10-year anniversary as a residential campus.

Designed for upperclassmen, the 451-bed community brings KSU’s housing stock to 3,500 beds, enabling approximately 15 percent of students to be housed on campus. KSU's Vice President of Student Success, Michael Sanseviro, said during the community's October 2011 groundbreaking that 'Once you get to 15 to 20 percent, that really transforms the culture and makes you a full, 24-hour university.'*

University Place II complements the architectural style of the adjacent University Place I (one of two residential communities KSU opened in 2002). This includes a clock tower to symbolize a 24-hour university.

Each 1,282 square foot apartment consists of four-bedroom suites with private bathrooms, shared kitchen and living room and balcony with some apartments offering views of Kennesaw Mountain. Apartment features include washer and dryer and wi-fi connectivity, and shared amenities include an outdoor amphitheater and multipurpose room.

KSU's Director of Housing & Residence Life, Jeff Cooper, said University Place II has added a vital component to the upperclass student housing experience at KSU.

"Not only does it provide amenities that our students want, such as private bedrooms and bathrooms, but it also provides community space that truly sets this product apart from those of competing companies and institutions," said Cooper.

According to Cooper, both the courtyard and amphitheater have already been used frequently. This includes a kick-off concert where over 2,500 students were in attendance.

"It is allowing us to turn the concept of traditional upperclass housing on its ear and do something fit for the Twenty-First Century student," said Cooper.

KSU is a long-term client of UHS, having also partnered with the developer on University Village Suites, an award-winning 915-bed facility, which opened in the Fall 2008.
