KSU's University Village Suites Named Posh Dorm

6/26/2013

St. Petersburg, FL - Although higher-education institutions have continued to make budget cuts over the past several years, one area where some colleges have tried to maintain funding is student amenities. According to an article released this month by Frugal Dad, the amenities a college offers its students can be the deciding factor when a student selects which college to attend, and the resulting competition creates "the perfect environment for schools to try to outdo each other with ever-more posh on-campus housing."

And while private college housing is mentioned most frequently in "top dorm" lists, a few state universities are moving up in the ranks. One such residence hall that made the "posh" list was Kennesaw State University's University Village Suites.

This freshmen-only complex, developed by UHS in 2008, offers students their own furnished spacious bedroom and the option of their own bathroom. Each suite has a small common area, counter space, a mini-fridge, and a microwave. Community kitchens are located throughout the complex. There's also an art gallery within the atrium and exhibition space, cafe, coffee shop and convenience store.

University Village Suites consistently has been ranked a Top Dorm by Campus Splash, most recently receiving first place with a score of 4.4 out of 5.0. One student comment gathered by Campus Splash said that University Village Suites is a very nice place in which to live and is 'conveniently located on campus so everything is a short walk away. When some peace and quiet is needed it's not hard to find with numerous study areas and a quiet community. It is also filled with great opportunities to get out and enjoy social scenes and gatherings.'

In addition, University Village Suites made the most recent Fiscal Times "10 Public Colleges with Insanely Luxurious Dorms" list.

UHS also developed KSU's University Place II, a 451-bed facility which opened in Summer 2012.
